Watercolor Spoonbill "Don't Worry. Be Happy" with Christine Reichow
Class Description & Supply List
(Bring a sack lunch)
Class Description:
When I asked my students what they would like to learn to paint next, quite a few asked for a Spoonbill. I was delighted by this request as the Spoonbill is an exotic native Florida bird. I have photographed and painted this bird through the years. With wings outstretched and a glimmer in the eye, this is one of my favorite photos. I took this at Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge.
I am providing a line drawing for each person to transfer to their 12" x 16" watercolor paper prior to class. The drawings will be at the front desk of the Recreation Center. You can pick them up on March 4th and beyond.
I think you will really enjoy the challenge of this painting as you learn how to control the "chaos" behind a bird that is perched in front of a busy background. As always, I will be going around helping everyone individually. Come and join the fun!
Watercolor Supply List
Winsor Newton, Daniel Smith or Holbein Watercolor Paint. WN Rose Madder Genuine, Holbein Shadow Green, Holbein Aureolin, DS Green Gold, WN Cobalt Blue, WN Sap Green, WN Hooker's Green, WN Burnt Sienna, WN Neutral Tint, DS Quinacridone Burnt Orange.
Please bring the paints that I have listed above. This is most important to insure the success of your painting. For fast shipping, I would suggest Jerry's Artarama Art Supply 1 (800) 827-8478.
Large palette with mixing areas.
12" x 16" cold pressed Arches watercolor paper 140# or 300#. Use a block of paper or a single sheet that is mounted on a support using artist's tape around the edge.
Scrap watercolor paper for color testing.
Brushes should be good quality rounds in assorted sizes, a tiny scrubber brush, a large mop brush. I like King Art Original Gold brushes, a natural Sponge (only a small one or a small piece).
Pebo Masking Fluid and natural rubber pick up for mask removal. Cheap nylon brushes for masking, small to medium size.
Black Micron pen #01
Miscellaneous needs: towels, cheap tissues, container for water, HB pencil, kneaded eraser, magnifying glass, apron, notebook and lunch.
